have tried to find what evidence exists and feel that that this
construction of the family is probably correct. Much of the
evidence is, however, slender or conjectural. Please see my

Barent Borgert first appears in the Muster Rolls at the Cape in
1690. The musters of this year give no additional details of any
one. He appears again in 1691 (no details given) and then in
1692 together with Maria Schalk and one child, apparently
living in Stellenbosch.
From 1693 they appear to be living in Drakenstein, still with one
child in that year, with two children in 1695. In 1696 no children
are given in the musters; in 1698 they have three chldren. In
1700 they are not listed. Years not mentioned have no musters
extant. |
