youngest son of the late William Simpson
of Larne, County Antrim, N. Ireland.
The deceased spent five years in the Arctic
Regions, serving in H.M.S. Plover in the
search for Sir John Franklin.
He died at Haslar Hospital on 29 August 1859

My brother is only 38 years of age - was my pupil - was in the first China war for which he received a medal - on his return from the North Sea was appointed surgeon-superintendant of The Royal Naval Hospital at Malta - served [thus] during the whole of the late war in the Crimea, and is now surgeon superintendant of Haslar Hosptial Portsmouth."
