Maatje Slabbert 1 born 1698, Meliskerke 2 baptized 11 April 1698, Meliskerke 3 died 22 October 1774, Cape Town 4 will dated 10 July 1765 and filed 1 December 1775 5 Notes: I have assumed that Matien Slabbert, baptised Meliskerke 11 April 1698, is the same as Marritje Slabbert who married Johannes Visser in Cape Town in 1717, and Maatje Slabbert, the wife of Johannes Visser, who made her joint will with her husband in 1741. The baptismal entries of their children give her name as Marritje, Maatje, Matie, Martje and Maaijke. In 1745, when she made an opgaaf return as the widow of Johannes Visser, she was living in the Cape District, had three sons and four daughters at home, six slaves with three children, 1 horse, 6 pigs, 100 cattle and 600 sheep. She continued to make opgaaf returns as the widow Johannes Visser until 1767, always in the Cape District. The inventory, dated September 1764, drawn up after the death of Pieter Slabbert, her brother, names her as Maatje Slabbert the widow of Johannes Visser.
