Notes:
He disembarked at the Cape on 22nd March 1659 as a soldier of the
Dutch East India Company, having arrived on the ship 'de Princes
Roijael' . He was then receiving 9 guilders a month. He was at first
employed as acting barber-surgeon, both at the fort and on various
expeditions until, on 24th January 1661, he was confirmed in the post
of Under Surgeon at a salary of 20 guilders a month. On 12th April
1664 he was promoted to surgeon at 30 guilders a month.

Interestingly enough, in the Muster Roll of free settlers, dated last
day of December 1712, at Stellenbosch, we have the follown listed:
Daniel Zaaijman & Pieternella Meerhof
Barent Zaaijman
Pieter Zaaijman & Anna Maria Coopman
Anthoy Meerhof
So perhaps this last, Anthony Meerhof, also succumbed to the 1713
smallpox epidemic.
