Andries Monk
Alida Gerritsz
Hendrina Monk 1
of De Klijne Fontijn, beyond the Oliphantsrivier
born 1729 2
baptized 30 October 1729, Stellenbosch 3
died 11 July 1767 4
Notes:
Although Hendrina did not have Anna Monk or her husband as
witnesses at the baptism of any of her children, Hendrina was
a witness at the baptism of the first of Anna Monk's children who
was named Gesina Hendrina and her husband, Willem Willemsz
van Wijk was a witness at the baptism of the fourth child who
was name Willem Willemsz Beneke. I think, therefore, that it is
reasonable to assume that that Anna and Hendrina Monk were
the children of the same names baptised by Andries Monk and
Alida Gerritsz at Stellenbosch.

Although she had four children with Hans Hendrik Maritz, the
first two baptised in Drakenstein and the last two presumably
in Cape Town, only Johannes Stephanus seems to have still
been living when she died in 1767.

baptized 9 November 1749, Cape Town 13
died 22 October 1774, Asia 14

Notes: Judging from the data provided from the
VOC ships' record books (scheepssoldijboeken) it looks
as though he enlisted as a sailor with the Dutch East
India Company.

Two journeys are recorded. One on the ship named
'Schagen', leaving 25 June 1771 and arriving Batavia
16 May 1772 and the second on the 'IJsselmonde',
leaving 10 June 1773 and arriving Batavia 4 Jan 1774.

His death in Asia on the 22nd October 1774 is recorded
in the log of the second voyage.
