Cornelia Helmes 1
born circa 1676, at the Cape 2
died between May and June 1720 3
will dated 23 May 1720
and filed 21 June 1720
Notes:
In 1692 she and Jan van den Bos are listed in the muster rolls
with three children.

All her children are given as listed in her two wills, one made
with Arij van Wijk in 1713, the other with Jacob Coetser in 1720.

Both wills states that she had eight Van Wijck children and give
their names - the earlier will gives their ages as well.

The details of her children's spouses and their children come
from the Deceased Estate Accounts of her son Willem van Wijk
d'oude, accounts dated 1771-72.

Johannes van den Bosch 8 died circa 1713
died circa 1713, (assumed)

Notes: Mentioned in 1713 in the will of Corneila
Helmes and Arij van Wijk as being still living at that date, he
first appears in the muster rolls of 1708 and is mentioned in
the Opgaafrollen of 1709 and 1712 as a single man but the
last mention of him in opgaafrollen and the muster rolls is in
1712. I would assume that he either died during 1713 (as did
so many other people at the Cape as a result of the smallpox
epidemic of that year) or that he left the country at that time.

But, there is a Johannes van den Bosch as orphan on the books
of the Weesmeesterern (MOOC 18/2) in January 1718.

Isaak D'Algue 20 died 1759
died 6 April 1759, on board the 'Wunsch' at the Cape 21

Notes: Although known as Isaq d'Algue, it appears
that his real name was Johannes Augustus Dreyer.
The following note is posted into the Cape Death
Notifications (Cape Archives) on page 10 where his
death is recorded:

Vide wills of the Orphan Chamber vol 11 no 29 of 1795

born 1707 25

died circa August 1708
buried before 12 August 1708, Stellenbosch 27

Notes: Not mentioned in his parent's will
of 1713, so presumably died before that date.

The entry in the General Cash accounts of the Stellenbosch
Congregation for 12 Aug 1708 lists three guilders collected
for the burial of a child of Arij van Wijk. Gerrit seems the most
likely candidate. (1/STB 12, 15-18)
